Pavers Over Existing Concrete
A Great Way To Extend The Life of Your Concrete
Existing concrete is porous by nature and can allow fluids like melted snow or rainwater to penetrate into the surface over time. This water penetration can cause hydrostatic pressure within the concrete, leading to cracking and spalling (splitting apart) of the affected areas. Exterior sealers are often applied as a preventative measure against this occurrence. Another solution is adding pavers to the surface, which are already sealed, to prevent water penetration.
Benefits of Adding Pavers Over Existing Concrete
The addition of pavers over existing concrete is both aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly. The act of installing pavers to your concrete not only hides any previous damage or unsightly stains but also creates a beautiful color contrast between the two materials.
Paver surfaces are available in many colors, which can complement the surrounding environment well. Additionally, paver surfaces are slip-resistant, which makes them safer than untreated areas when wet weather occurs.
Increased Safety
A benefit of adding pavers over existing concrete is increased safety. Solid paver surfaces can decrease the chances of slipping or losing your footing when standing on them. Pavers are manufactured with grooves that allow for water to permeate through, preventing water stagnation and unsafe conditions. This is extremely helpful if added to a pool deck or area around water, as it prevents the possibility of slipping on a surface that could cause potential injury.
Durability
Another benefit to installing pavers over existing concrete is the increased durability and strength of the overall surface. The addition of paver surfaces creates a more stable, structured area that will resist damage better than an untouched concrete slab. If dropped from above, pavers can break under pressure but will not crack as porous concrete would after receiving such impact. Additionally, pavers are slip-resistant and can withstand wear and tear much better than other materials, which aid in maintenance throughout its extended life span.
Extend Life of the Concrete
The installation of pavers over existing concrete is a process that aids in the area’s life expectancy. The addition of pavers can increase the structural integrity and durability and block any moisture penetration into the lower layers, which would otherwise cause possible damage over time. This also helps maintain your paver surfaces long-term, as regular cleaning and maintenance will be much easier to perform now that there are no grooves for dirt and grime to accumulate within.
Easy to Maintain
A benefit to adding pavers over existing concrete is the ease of maintenance. Since the pavers are solid and smooth, you’ll be able to clean them with a quick sweeping or pressure washing, then add some power tools at their base should you decide to install an edging around the perimeter. Pavers can also be removed for easier cleaning if necessary. However, this will require drilling through the upper paver layer before it’s reinstalled onto the surface.

Learn about Our Company & Installation Process
Our Installation Process is as follows:
1. We will begin by digging out the existing concrete down to its foundation, leaving only the pavers intact. This helps eliminate any dirt or sediment that may get under your new surface, which can cause damage over time. We will also make sure to remove it in a way that doesn’t harm any of your plants or grass above ground.
2. Once our installation team has removed all of your old surfaces down to their foundation, we will then prepare the area for new paver installation with the base material and some compacted gravel, depending on what you select during our consultation process. This step is key for proper drainage and stability while ensuring your pavers are set evenly throughout the surrounding area once they are installed onto this layer beneath them.
3. After our base material and compacted gravel is properly installed, we will install the paver surface on top of this preparation for your approval before adding any more detailed features to it, such as etching or coloration.
4. Once you have selected everything you desire from our consultation process, our team will then provide a smooth final product that will last just as long as brand-new surfaces with low-maintenance upkeep.
